Early Life and Career
Amy Meredith Poehler, born September 16, 1971, is an American actress, comedian, producer, and writer. Born in Newton, Massachusetts, Poehler's parents were high school teachers, Eileen Frances Milmore and William Grinstead Poehler.
After graduating from Boston College, Poehler pursued a career in comedy and improv at Chicago's Second City.
Breakthrough and Success
Poehler's career took off after she joined the cast of the NBC sketch comedy show "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) in 2001. She remained a cast member until 2008, showcasing her comedic talents and becoming known for her witty and satirical sketches.
In 2009, Poehler returned to SNL as co-anchor of the show's "Weekend Update" segment. Her sharp humor and chemistry with co-anchor Seth Meyers made "Weekend Update" a popular segment.
